Do you have passion for community engagement. CVLife are looking for an enthusiastic and driven Community Development Manager to manage and support the delivery of the CVLife Community, Engagement and Outreach Programmes across Coventry.

The Community Development Manager has the responsibility to design, develop and implement high quality programmes and projects. The role will be responsible for the identification of external funding opportunities and to write and co-ordinate funding applications to an agreed annual financial target. The post holder will be proactive in developing and working with relevant wider partner organisations to increase the numbers engaging in community activities.

The role will manage budgets and performance, oversee applications for funding and recommend projects that best meet the needs of the community and service users. The successful candidate will have a track record in the management of community projects, preferably in the land management sector. You should have a strategic outlook to meet short, medium, and long-term objectives and champion continuous improvement and community involvement.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Experience of community development working and project management.
  • Experience of budget control and grant programme management.
  • Hold a NGB Level 3 and First Aid at work qualification.
  • Experience managing performance of a service and a team.
  • Highly organised and proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Coventry Sports Foundation and Culture Coventry Trust are operating as CV Life, so that the scope of this Job Description as a CV Life document extends to cover the employment contracts held with either Coventry Sports Foundation or Culture Coventry Trust.

Overall purpose and objective of the role

The Community Development Officer has responsibility to design, develop and implement high quality programmes and projects. The role will be responsible for the identification of external funding opportunities and to write and co-ordinate funding applications to an agreed annual financial target.

This position falls within a shared-services working arrangement agreed between the respective Boards of Directors of Culture Coventry Trust and Coventry Sports Foundation, which allows for the sharing of posts and associated services where appropriate and of benefit to the work of both organisations.

Main duties of the role:

  1. To develop and maintain new partnerships with key agencies, communities and organisations to establish and provide structured community development programmes.
  2. To research and explore any opportunities for developing a community offer within the communities directly surrounding CV Life facilities.
  3. To be responsible for mentoring, counselling, supporting, advising, coaching and for the professional development of staff working on community development programmes
  4. To structure and organise communication networks within the various departments within community development and lead meetings as appropriate.
  5. To organise and monitor all aspects of personnel and staffing within community development including staffing levels, rota’s, cover, holidays, absenteeism and progress reviews, and to support employment procedures in accordance with HR policy.
  6. Ensure employees deliver a high-quality service within all community development programmes, including customer consultations, open sessions, programming (including set appointments and follow ups), health and safety and customer service.
  7. To deliver sessions across community development programmes when required and monitor and adapt programme’s contents accordingly.
  8. Increase and maintain high levels of uptake, encourage new ideas to increase participation in community development programmes.
  9. Using management information systems (e.g. usage and participation) to improve provision and timetables and cope with fluctuations in demand.
  10. To actively promote and market all community development services, to raise the profile of the department and demonstrate its value to target audiences.
  11. To be responsible for recruitment within the community development department, ensuring coordination with Swimming Development manager and the Education team on shared resources where appropriate.
  12. To develop a range of relevant key performance indicators and provide monthly and quarterly reports on the performance of community development programmes to the Community and Engagement Manager.
  13. To develop relevant outreach programmes within communities, through consultation and networking to understand the needs of the local community. 
  14. The delivery of programmes in partnership with internal departments and key city wide agencies.
  15. To act as the operational lead and point of contact with community connectors for social prescribing opportunities.
  16. To attend training/refresher courses as appropriate to maintain qualifications, up-to-date knowledge of the community / sports development and standards of good practice; and to organise as is necessary for staff to ensure that their qualifications are kept up-to-date.
  17. To liaise with the marketing to ensure all programmes are promoted to the targeted audiences across a variety of marketing platforms and community networks.
  18. To maintain all relevant administrative records and reports and to be responsible for setting up new systems and processes relative to community programmes.
  19. To ensure high standards of customer care at all times, and to respond to all customer enquiries/complaints effectively and efficiently.
  20. To lead the planning and development of the annual budget for community development programmes.
  21. Responsibly for the financial controls within Community Development and the ongoing monitoring of agreed budgets and reporting on variances.
  22. To become a designated Safeguarding Lead & attend all relevant training & meetings.
