CV Life are looking to recruit enthusiastic Sports Coach Assistants to join our successful Community Development Team to support the delivery of high quality curriculum to Ofsted standards, extracurricular active sessions in schools, sports centres and in the community.

Do you have a coaching qualification or would like to work towards one? A level 1 NGB qualification or equivalent is desirable. Move through our pathway to enhance your professional development.

The successful applicant will be required to work mainly weekdays, however a flexible attitude to shift work is essential as weekends, early mornings and evenings may be required from time to time.

Job Description

Reporting to: Education Manager


Coventry Sports Foundation and Culture Coventry Trust are operating as CV Life, so that the scope of this Job Description as a CV Life document extends to cover the employment of employment contracts held with either Coventry Sports Foundation or Culture Coventry Trust.

Overall purpose and objective of the role:

To assist with the organisation, development and delivery of all aspects of the Schools’ PE Programmes and all other Community Development programmes.

Main duties of the role:

  1. To regularly assist in the delivery of the prescribed number of coaching sessions to those schools who are associated with the School Curriculum program and out of school clubs.
  2. To assist in the delivery of coaching sessions as organised within the objectives of the project’s school and community outreach program.
  3. To always assist in the delivery of coaching sessions in a manner consistent with sound coaching principles and the social objectives of the project, adhering to the project’s unit and lesson plans.
  4. To be actively involved in Community Development issues outside of coaching programmes, including events, meetings and activity promotion as directed by the managers within the Community Development Team.
  5. To assist in the planning, review and development of all new and existing unit and lesson plans and Community Development work programmes.
  6. To attend all project review and forward planning meetings.
  7. To set up and break down equipment as necessary for sessions, adhering to the correct procedures for the safe handling and storing of equipment.
  8. To ensure that adequate standards of Health & Safety considerations are maintained at all times, in accordance with the Health & Safety policy.
  9. To undertake regular stock checks of project equipment, reporting all losses and damages.
  10. To respond to accidents with the appropriate measures of first aid, ensuring that all records relating to accidents are completed immediately afterwards.
  11. To perform facility duties as required by managers within the Community Development team when not otherwise engaged with or required for project coaching responsibilities.
  12. To contribute to the professional development and guidance of Further Education and Work Placement students.
  13. To seek personal professional development by pursuing relevant experiences and appropriate qualifications.
  14. To attend regular internal training days to improve subject knowledge.
  15. To attend safeguarding training within the company and adopt its policies.

  • Experience of assisting in delivering sports coaching in either a school, club or community setting.

  • Leadership skills.
  • Ability to assist in the delivery of high quality, varied & effective coaching sessions.
  • Organisational, planning and administration skills.
  • Communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt sessions appropriately dependent on the needs of the group.

Special Circumstances

  • Ability to work unsociable hours including evenings, weekends, and Bank Holidays.
  • Ability to travel between sites.
  • Interest in working with underrepresented and disadvantaged community groups/individuals.
  • DBS Clearance required.
