CV Life’s Alan Higgs Centre hosts Boccia England Super League

CV Life’s Alan Higgs Centre was buzzing with excitement recently after hosting Day Three of the 2023-24 Boccia England Super League.

Teams gathered at the venue to prepare for the final round of fixtures, each aiming for victory and a chance to secure their place in the Finals Day competition in Nottingham come July.

But what exactly is boccia? Boccia is a precision ball sport, similar to bocce or lawn bowls, designed for athletes with disabilities. Played on a flat, smooth court, the game involves players throwing or rolling leather balls as close as possible to a white target ball, known as the jack. It requires strategy and accuracy, making it an engaging and competitive sport for participants and spectators alike.

The action-packed day saw seven matches played out with fierce competition from all the teams. Players demonstrated skill and precision as they manoeuvred the balls with strategic aim, vying for each crucial point. After a day of intense matches, the Southern All Stars emerged victorious, winning the 2023-24 Super League.

In addition to crowning the champions, the day’s matches also determined the relegation spot and the first set of fixtures for the 2023-24 Super League Finals Day competition in Nottingham. With the quarter-finals decided, the winning teams are now set to progress to the Trophy semi-finals, while the losing teams will enter the Plate semi-finals.

Laura Williams, the Centre Manager at the Alan Higgs Centre, said: “We’re thrilled to have hosted an action-packed day of Super League boccia here in Coventry.

“Congratulations to the Southern All Stars for their outstanding performance and victory. The energy and passion displayed by all teams today made this a truly memorable event and I look forward to more like this in the future.”
