Coventry Kabaddi team celebrate first home win at CV Life venue

The British Kabaddi League came to Coventry for the first time recently allowing fans to support Coventry Chargers in their inaugural home games.

The action-packed event was held at CV Life’s Centre AT7 from Friday 3 to Sunday 5 May. Spectators were treated to 14 matches over the weekend as the teams battled it out on the kabaddi court.

Coventry Chargers secured their first home victory after coming out on top in one of their three games over the weekend. They were up against Glasgow Unicorns who took the 31 – 68 victory, before competing against Manchester Raiders to take their first home win at 41 – 39. The team’s last match was against Sandwell Kings which the Chargers narrowly lost 35 – 38.

Councillor Kamran Caan, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Sport, said: “It’s fantastic to have the British Kabaddi League in Coventry and to have our own kabaddi team.

“It’s been an incredible event weekend, and I am so proud that we, as a city, hosted this event. The Coventry Chargers have been superb and I encourage Coventry residents to throw their support behind them for the rest of the season.”

Coventry Building Society are the team’s headline sponsor for the 2024 season. The business shared a video to introduce the team ahead of the event and to explain kabaddi for those who are not familiar with the sport.

For those unable to attend in person, all matches can be viewed on BBC iPlayer

The team will be competing in the British Kabaddi League as it moved to Glasgow this weekend, before the grand final takes place in Birmingham on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 May.
