CV Life took a step forward in supporting those with musculoskeletal (MSK) issues this week, with a specialised training session hosted at Xcel Leisure Centre.
Led by NHS physiotherapists Chris and Gurpreet the session aimed to strengthen Lifestyles’ MSK referral scheme and build confidence among fitness staff in assisting individuals referred to CV Life rehabs sessions and gyms.
Fifteen team members, including 11 Fitness Instructors, attended the 90-minute session, which was organised following earlier discussions between the NHS physios and Healthy Lifestyles Programme Coordinator Gladness Manecka, as well as the wider Lifestyles team. The presentation covered key strategies for effectively engaging with MSK referrals on the gym floor, tackling common myths, and ensuring a smooth transition for those referred by healthcare providers.
The collaboration represents a growing partnership between CV Life and NHS physiotherapists, easing pressure on the health service while promoting exercise as a cornerstone of recovery and wellbeing.
Simon Blay, Health and Fitness Operations Manager, said: “Supporting individuals with MSK conditions is about more than just physical recovery – it’s about helping them regain confidence in movement and achieve long-term improvements in their quality of life. This partnership with the NHS strengthens our ability to guide referrals safely and effectively.”
MSK conditions are a real issue for millions of people in the UK. It can affect your joints, bones and muscles and is sometimes associated with tissues such as your nerves. They can range from minor injuries to long-term conditions.
MSK conditions such as arthritis, back pain, gout and fibromyalgia (among many others) cause symptoms such as pain, stiffness, limited movement, and disability which often impact quality of life and independence.
Regular exercise has been shown to significantly benefit those with MSK conditions, reducing pain and improving function. With the continued collaboration between CV Life and NHS physiotherapists, the organisation is better equipped to help clients stay active and meet their fitness goals while managing their conditions.
