A CV Life Lifestyles member has shared how she turned her health around with multiple weekly classes.
Mel Gregory has rewritten her health narrative with determination and resilience, showcasing how dedication can lead to remarkable transformations.
With motherhood, Mel found herself in a decades-long habit of putting the wellbeing of others before her own, something which shaped her approach to fitness for decades.
Now 51, Mel’s decided to embark on an incredible journey which has had a massively positive impact on her life.
“I went from 64kg to 112kg with my firstborn,” Mel recalls. “Despite my efforts, I was always around 95kg for over two decades.”
Her weight gain, coupled with borderline type 2 diabetes and arthritis, posed significant challenges. “The arthritis in my knee, hip, and ankle felt like a rodent chewing at my bones. It made moving hard, especially when the weather was bad.”
Determined to make a change, Mel found her rhythm at CV Life Lifestyles. She said: “I joined both the Moat House and the AT7 gyms because different gyms offer different classes that I like.”
Her enthusiasm for fitness led her to attend up to nine gym classes a week, embracing a variety of exercises.
Through her dedication, Mel has achieved a weight she hadn’t seen in decades. “I’m 88.8kg now, the lightest since before my children were born. I’m finally not ashamed of what I weigh.
“My resting heart rate is now below 60. I’m so chilled out I’m almost dead,” she jokes.
Her borderline type 2 diabetes is no longer a concern, and her arthritis has become more manageable. “While it still hurts sometimes, it’s not as bad as it used to be. Being more active has definitely helped.”
Reflecting on her journey, Mel expresses newfound confidence. “I’ve gone from ‘obese’ to ‘overweight’ on the BMI scale—that’s a huge achievement for me.”
But the change isn’t just physical. She said: “I’m feeling more positive about myself.”
Mel’s story is a testament to the power of persistence and the impact of finding joy in fitness. “It’s been hard shifting the weight, especially at my age, but I’m having a lot of fun with the gym classes,” she shares.
Her transformation illustrates that it’s never too late to make a significant change, highlighting the rewards of a healthy, active lifestyle.
