We are looking for a Lunt Roman Fort Facilitator to join the Learning and Engagement Team in the delivery of the Learning Programme at CV Life’s unique Roman heritage site, situated on the outskirts of Coventry in Baginton.
The Lunt Roman Fort is proud to deliver an immersive learning experience to school children, family audiences and at the annual summer festival, through first person interpretation in full Roman costume.
The Learning & Engagement Team enables all our visitors to enjoy our inspiring collections, whilst gaining a full appreciation and enjoyment of Coventry’s rich history. The Learning and Engagement Team’s mission is to promote memorable experiences to children and young people. You would be supporting a regular programme of educational workshops and performances which attracts over 6,000 children each year.
- Work with other team members, external practitioners, and volunteers to deliver high quality learning experiences for schools and family audiences.
- Operational duties including preparation of materials, administering ticketing, money handling, volunteer supervision, and cleaning duties.
Ideal Candidate:
- Is a history enthusiast, keen to provide learning through costumed, first-person interpretation of our collections with an awareness of diversity and access issues in learning environments.
- Can demonstrate an effective communication style with the ability to adapt to different audiences.
- As a confident and passionate individual about Roman History, you will engage audiences to create memorable and engaging experiences.
- Will understand the principles behind effective learning in and outside the classroom.
This role is seasonal in terms of workload. You will work 37 hours per week from late February to the end of November. Your salary will be annualised and paid evenly throughout the year, based on an average of 30 hours per week, providing a consistent monthly income.

Job Description
Reporting to: Schools Programme Educator
Scope
Coventry Sports Foundation and Culture Coventry are independent organisations who work collaboratively through CV Life, so that this Job Description as a CV Life document extends to cover the employment contracts held with either Culture Coventry Trust or Coventry Sports Foundation.
Overall purpose and objective of the role
To work with the Learning and Engagement Team to deliver formal and informal learning programmes for schools and community audiences based on the collections and exhibitions of CV Life museums, primarily at the Lunt Roman Fort.
Main duties of the role:
- Meet and greet individuals, groups, schools and coach parties and advise of health and safety procedures, visitor facilities etc.
- Interact with visitors, providing a visible and welcoming point of contact, giving information and customer care to visitors to enhance the visitor experience.
- Enhance visitor interaction by wearing appropriate costume, participating in events and handling objects from the collection as required.
- Provide interactive and immersive tours to groups of visitors and school parties.
- Develop and maintain a working knowledge of Roman history, in particular in relation to the history of the Lunt Roman Fort and its link to the wider history of Coventry, in order to assist with visitor enquiries and refer to other Culture Coventry sites.
- Conduct regular checks to ensure that equipment is in good repair, and that items on display are secure and undamaged, reporting problems to the Schools Programme Educator.
- Be aware of and able to assess and deal with challenging visitors/situations in line with CV Life procedures.
- Contribute at all times to the general upkeep of the Lunt Roman Fort and reporting areas of concern to the Schools Programme Educator.
- Carry out cleaning work as directed by the Schools Programme Educator, using appropriate and approved materials.
- Seek to ensure the security of the buildings and the collection by means of:
- Compliance with prescribed procedures for locking and unlocking the premises and the security keys.
- Setting and un setting alarm systems.Patrolling the site ensuring that there is no risk of loss or damage to the collection.
- Monitoring the movement of people allowed access to secure areas of the premises, including contractors, hirers, volunteers and students.
- Ensure the safety of the public is maintained, taking designated role in the evacuation of the buildings in an emergency.
- Gather, review and respond to participant feedback to continually improve programmes.
- To work to administrative frameworks, ensuring accurate and timely data entry and record keeping.
- To support the Community Programme Educator in the development and delivery of holiday activities for children and their families.
- To deliver against Lunt Roman Fort events, including the annual festival and Roman Campouts.
- Participate in occasional weekend, evening and overnight working as required by the programme.

Essential Knowledge and Experience
- An understanding of Roman History and/or the desire to learn about this subject matter in the context of the Lunt Roman Fort’s place in Coventry’s history.
- Demonstrate experience of facilitating school sessions within a heritage context.
- An understanding of the importance of equal opportunities and its particular relevance to this post and the delivery of services to visitors.
Essential Special Skills
- Enthusiastic and comfortable delivering public-facing activities in costume, using first-person interpretation to bring history and stories to life.
